Earth Leakage Protection

Earth Leakage Protection and Open Circuit

Instructions for Use

Earth Leakage Protection

"DISTOP" detects leakages to earth of the HT circuit and cuts off the transformer power supply within the operating times specified in the EN 50107 standards.

The device has a compact resin-filled housing and field interchangeability takes just a few seconds using a screwdriver.  Its shape is such that it requires no wiring, since it fits perfectly into the terminal board without risk of error and comes supplied with screws for extremely quick assembly, even in awkward positions.

Recommendations

Operation of the equipment is only guaranteed if the transformer is connected to a supply which conforms to current standards (BS7671 IEE Regs.) and all metalwork is crrectly earth bonded.

Failure to observe the above may cause malfuncioning or faults in the equipment and invalidate the warranty of both the DISTOP and the transformer.

Earth Leakage Protection and Open Circuit

The "INTERSTOP" safety device has two different functions.  It detects HT circuit leakages to earth and cuts off the transformer power supply, as required by EN5017 standards.

In open circuit conditioms, "INTERSTOP" cuts off the power supply to the transformer reacting after about four seconds, as required by EN50107 stansards.

INTERSTOP is supplied separately from the transformer and comes in a resin-coated sealed houising rated IOP 67, complete with cable and connecting link so that no wiring is required and extremely quick assembly is possible even in awkward positions.

Recommendations

Operation of the equipment is only guaranteed if the transformer is connected to a supply which conforms to current standards (BS7671 IEE Regs.) and all metalwork is crrectly earth bonded.

Failure to observe the above instructions invalidate both the INTERSTOP and the transformer warranty.

Instructions for Use

1

Check that the incoming mains supply complies with the primary voltage specified on the transformer's nameplate (240V).

2

Check that the installation is protected against overload by the addition of suitable fuses and/or automatic circuit breakers (BS7671 IEE regs.)

3

Check that all metal parts and transformers have been correctly earthed (BS7671 IEE regs.)

4

Ensure that a good airflow is maintained around the transformer at all times. Do not position adjacent transformers within 10cm of each other.  Locating the transformer in a completely enclosed space will encourage overheating and subsequent failure.

5

Keep HT leads as short as possible.  It is suggested that the transformer is positioned in close proximity to the sign.  Only use HT cables that conform to BS EN50143.

6

Never exceed the secondary current rating (mA) specified on the transformer's nameplate.  The running current may however be 20% less than that specified in the case of Argon filled tubes (or mixture) or 5% less in the case of Neon filled tubes (or mixture).

Important:

Transformers incorporating earth leakage protection devices can be used with flashers or sequencers.

Transformers incorporating earth leakage and open circuit protection device cannot be used with flashers and sequencers.
